Places to Visit

Godavari Ghat:

Every 12 years, Godavari Pushkaralu is celebrated along the banks of the river. It is said that taking a dip in the river during this period rids you of your sins. The Godavari River presents itself in all its majesty in Rajahmundry. The city serves as one of the major centres of celebration during pushkaralu and is a great place to take in the vastness of the river. The Godavari Ghat has been built to accommodate the thousands of people who come here during the festival. The ghat is also the perfect place to watch the sun rise and set upon the mighty river. You can also go for a refreshing morning walk on the promenade. There are a few temples that you can visit on the river's promenade. Amongst them are the ISKON Temple and the Saraswati Temple.

Rajahmundry-Kovvur Rail Cum Road Bridge:

Built over the River Godavari, the Rajahmundry-Kovvur Bridge is Asia's longest rail-cum-road bridge over a water body. The 4.2 km long bridge has a road deck constructed over a single-track rail deck. The bridge is the defining feature of Rajahmundry as it is widely used in arts, culture and media to represent the city.
The Godavari Ghat offers remarkable views of this characteristic curved bridge that connects the East Godavari and West Godavari districts. Adjacent to the bridge are two other bridges : Havelock Bridge, which is not in use anymore, and the Godavari Arch Bridge.

Kotilingala Revu:

This is a ferry point in Rajahmundry that is used to cross the Godavari River. There is an old temple, dedicated to Kotilingeswara Swamy (Lord Shiva), a popular pilgrimage centre. Thc temple was built some time between the 10th and 11th centuries CE. There is also a bathing ghat here.

Sir Arthur Cotton Museum:

Irrigation engineer and British General, Sir Arthur Thomas Cotton dedicated his life to constructing canals to harvest river water for irrigation. He is credited for building the Dowleswaram Dam on the Godavari in Rajahmundry, the Prakasam Barrage upon the Krishna in Vijayawada and the Kurnool-Kadapa Canal. In this region of the state, he is addressed as 'Delta Architect’ and is revered for the efforts he put into taming the tumultuous Godavari River.
In his honour, the Sir Arthur Cotton Museum was built in Rajahmundry in the year 1998. The museum houses several pictures and tools Cotton used during the construction of the Dowleswaram Dam. It is the only civil engineering museum in the state.

Annavaram Satya Narayana Swamy Temple:

Situated atop the Ratnagiri Hills, enroute to Visakhapatnam, Annavaram is one of the most revered pilgrim centres in Andhra Pradesh. Annavaram is quite a picturesque destination with the Pampa River flowing languidly next to the hills. The multi-storeyed temple complex has several entrances. The riveting temple structure, painted in white is home to Veera Venkata Satya Narayana Swamy, a form of Lord Vishnu. Satya Narayana is offered prayers on occasions such as weddings, house warmings, etc. The main shrine is two-storeyed and houses a unique yantra (geometrical diagram used in the Tantric tradition to aid in meditation) based on Tripad Vibhuti Narayana Upanishad.

Draksharamam Temple:

Located on the eastern bank of Godavari, Draksharamam Temple is one of the five most powerful and prominent temples dedicated to Lord Shiva in the country. 40kms away from Rajahmundry, the temple architecture dates back to 11th century. Draksharamam is perfect for a religious pilgrimage, the scenery around the temple is pleasant and the road journey to the temple is nothing short of beautiful. The area and the temple is also called 'Dakshin Kashi' - that signifies its importance as a place of immense religious importance.

Dindi:

A beautiful village located on the banks of the second-longest Indian river, Godavari, Dindi is truly an exceptional place to explore. Moreover, what makes Dindi worth discovering is the fact that still, it is quite unexplored by people. And the backwater canals, lagoons, and lakes of this region make Dindi all the more an interesting choice for the tourists. The ancient temple of the Sidhi Vinayaka is a gem of a place to visit here. Apart from that, the Jaganmohini Keshava Temple at Ryali would too fascinate you. It is basically a quiet village situated between Vashista and the Gautami tributaries of the Godavari river.

Antarvedi Beach:

Situated in the Antarvedi village, Sakhinetipalle Mandal of East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh, Antarvedi Beach is a tranquil beach and a perfect getaway for the ones who want to take a break from city life. Even though this beach is less popular amongst tourists, it definitely is worth a visit courtesy of its serene aura which is simply soul-rejuvenating. As it is less popular, it is the perfect getaway for those who look for isolated places to spend some alone time. Also, early mornings at Antarvedi Beach are very soothing and peaceful and if you visit here, you ought to witness the same. The village that the beach is situated in is known for its moderate weather even in the winter months. So if you are planning to take a trip to this beautiful place, prefer visiting in the months between october and December.
